A short introduction:

Ayurveda is an holistic health system; a complete healing science comprising diet, Yoga, massage, detoxification, herbal remedies, meditation and daily lifestyle. Ayurveda improves not only your physical wellbeing but also your psychological and spiritual health. A central principal of Ayurveda is prevention of illness; its focus on living healthily is aimed at maintaining good health and balance.

Ayurveda perceives everything in the universe as composed of five basic elements: space, air, fire, water and earth.  Mankind is a microcosm of nature; so the five elements are also present in us.

These five elements in turn combine with each other to give rise to three psycho-physiological functional principles of the body known as doshas.  They are called vata (air and space), pitta (fire and water) and kapha (water and earth).  The three doshas are present in every cell, tissue, organ, system and organism.  Therefore, they play a prominent role in the creation of an individual’s constitution.  When balanced the doshas contribute to our overall good health, when out of balance they contribute to disease.

Ayurveda and Massage:

According to Ayurveda we shouldn’t put anything on our skin that we cannot put on our tongue!  Just as everything we put in our mouth is absorbed by the body, anything we put on our skin is absorbed to the deepest levels of the body through cellular actions; to the tissues and the bones. Therefore, Ayurveda gives much importance to massage to help bring the body back to a state of balanced health.

The powerful science of marma point massage was developed in ancient Indian Vedic times. These points have a wide range of functions that affect body, mind and spirit. Their specialist, therapeutic applications are potentially unlimited and include: pain relief, detoxification, rejuvenation, enhanced awareness, calming to the mind and emotions and are valuable in preventative care.
